Record a task once.

OpenSOP watches you do something on your computer — clicking and talking the whole way — and automatically writes a clean, illustrated step-by-step PDF. Every click is captured with a screenshot and a red numbered marker, your voice becomes the instructions, and it all happens on your own PC.

How it works

From a screen recording to a polished guide.

You do the task one time. OpenSOP handles the screenshots, the writing, the numbering and the layout — and lets you fix anything just by talking to it.

  1. 1

    Record once

Press Ctrl+Alt+R and do the task while you narrate it. OpenSOP captures every click — with a screenshot and a red numbered circle on the exact spot — plus your voice and what you type.

  2. 2

    It writes the guide

An AI cleans up the recording, drops the fumbles, merges tiny steps, and writes a friendly numbered guide — then renders a clean PDF. Your spoken words are treated as the source of truth for what you meant.

  3. 3

    Edit by voice

On the Done screen, type or speak changes — "drop the search-bar fumble", "combine steps 3 and 4" — and it rewrites the PDF from the same recording. No re-recording.

  4. 4

    Send the PDF

Finished guides land in your OpenSOP Guides folder, ready to email or text to whoever needs to learn the task.

What you get

A guide that looks like you spent hours on it.

Numbered steps, plain-English instructions written from your narration, and a captioned screenshot for each click with a red marker on exactly where to press.

  • One screenshot per real step. The red numbered circle lands on the exact control you clicked — no guessing.
  • Written like a human wrote it. Friendly, numbered, skimmable — built from what you actually said.
  • Auto-cleaned. Dead-end clicks and fumbles are dropped; tiny steps are merged.
  • Share-ready PDF. Clean, on-brand layout that's ready to email or text the moment it's done.
Features

Everything you need to teach a task once.

A focused, local-first SOP recorder — a Scribe/Tango-style guide maker you fully own.

Record once, get a guide

Capture every click (with a screenshot and a red numbered marker), your voice, and your typing — then OpenSOP writes the whole guide and renders the PDF for you.

Auto-cleanup

It drops fumbling and dead-end clicks, merges tiny steps, and treats your spoken words as the source of truth for what you actually meant to do.

Talk-to-it revisions

On the Done screen, type or speak changes — "combine steps 3 and 4", "drop the fumble" — and it rewrites the PDF from the same recording. No re-recording.

Local & private by default

The AI that writes the guide can run 100% locally via Ollama — no account, no cloud, no per-guide cost, nothing leaves your machine.

Bring your own key (optional)

Prefer top-tier quality? Add your Anthropic Claude API key for cloud mode at a few cents per guide. OpenSOP auto-detects: local if installed, else cloud.

Local transcription

Your narration is transcribed on your own GPU or CPU with faster-whisper — the same engine family that powers OpenVerba.

Simple hotkeys

Ctrl+Alt+R to start or stop, Ctrl+Alt+P to pause. Record without hunting for buttons mid-task.

Clean, share-ready PDFs

Finished guides land in an "OpenSOP Guides" folder as polished PDFs — ready to email or text the moment they're done.

Built for Windows

A native Windows 10/11 desktop app, privacy-first and local-first — the same ethos as its sibling, OpenVerba.

Free

No account, no trial, no subscription. Use the local AI and it costs nothing per guide — ever.

Free & private

Local AI on your PC — or your own key.

Like OpenVerba, OpenSOP is local-first. The AI that writes your guide can run entirely on your machine. Want the highest quality instead? Bring your own Claude key. It auto-detects which to use.

Cloud · optional

Bring your own Claude key

~a few cents per guide · top-tier quality

  • Best writing quality for tricky or polished guides.
  • Your key, your account: billed directly by Anthropic.
  • No local model needed — handy on lightweight machines.
  • Auto-detect: uses local if installed, else falls back to cloud.
Requirements

What you need to run it

Windows 10 or 11

A native Windows desktop app. (Same platform as OpenVerba.)

A microphone

Any mic Windows recognizes — built-in, USB, or headset — so you can narrate the task.

Local AI or a Claude key

Install Ollama with a vision model for free local mode (a GPU helps), or add an Anthropic Claude API key for cloud mode.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is OpenSOP free?

Yes. OpenSOP is free for Windows. If you use the built-in local AI it costs nothing per guide — there's no account and no subscription. The only optional cost is if you choose to bring your own Anthropic Claude API key for cloud mode, which is a few cents per guide.

Does my recording or data leave my PC?

Not in local mode. The screenshots, your narration and your typing are processed on your own machine — transcription runs locally with faster-whisper and the guide is written by a local vision model via Ollama. Nothing is uploaded. Only if you opt into cloud mode are screenshots and text sent to Anthropic's Claude API to write the guide.

What do I need to run it?

Windows 10 or 11 and a microphone. For free local AI you install Ollama with a vision model (such as Qwen2.5-VL); a GPU makes it faster but isn't required. Alternatively, supply an Anthropic Claude API key and you don't need a local model at all.

Local AI or cloud AI — which should I use?

OpenSOP auto-detects: if a local model is installed it uses that — free, private and offline. If not, and you've added a Claude API key, it uses cloud mode for top-tier quality at a few cents per guide. You're always in control of which one runs.

Can I edit the guide after recording?

Yes — by talking to it. On the Done screen you type or speak changes like "drop the steps where I fumbled the search bar" or "combine steps 3 and 4", and OpenSOP rewrites the PDF from the same recording. No re-recording needed.

Is OpenSOP Windows only?

Yes, OpenSOP is a Windows 10/11 desktop app today, like its sibling OpenVerba.
